Modue 1 - Introduction to Governance

The module introduces new board members to governance, covering roles, responsibilities, and liabilities. It includes risk management, governance policies, and by-laws. The module ensures understanding of the board's role versus the Executive Director’s, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and unified communication. It's ideal for orienting new members and refreshing current ones.

Module 2 - Board Recruitment and Orientation

This module is designed for Board Members, Board Recruitment/Training Committees, and Executive Directors. It covers the entire recruitment process, from when to start and how to use a skills matrix, to where to recruit and how to craft recruitment letters. Participants will also learn how to set up effective orientation and onboarding programs for new members. The module emphasizes the importance of evaluating board members and processes to guide training and policy development.


Module 3 - Meetings, Minutes, Committee and other potentially boring stuff

This module is designed for Board Chairs, committee chairs and members, as well as all Board members seeking development and training. It is recommended to be taken in partnership with your Executive Director. The topics covered include how to chair a meeting, maintain discipline during meetings, and understand the appropriate times to make motions. Additionally, the module offers best practices for minute taking and agenda setting, distinguishing the roles of the Board versus the Executive Director. A significant focus is also placed on the terms of reference, functions, and roles of various committees.


Module 4 - Risk Management

This module offers an introduction to the process of risk management, specifically tailored for Early Learning and Child Care organizations. Participants will learn about the various risk elements pertinent to this sector and gain practical knowledge on how to map these elements and develop effective strategies to mitigate them. This module is essential for those looking to enhance their understanding and implementation of risk management practices within their organization.


Module 5 - Board Monitoring

This module offers an overview of board monitoring practices essential for effective governance. Participants will learn what information the Board needs, the appropriate timing, and methods for monitoring. The module covers crucial areas such as program oversight, board function, financial and legal requirements, and the performance management of the Executive Director. By delving into both policies and procedures, this module highlights the importance of diligent monitoring and provides practical strategies for implementation.
