The module ensures understanding of the board's role versus the Executive Director’s, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and unified communication. It's ideal for orienting new members and refreshing current ones.

This module is designed for Board Members, Board Recruitment/Training Committees, and Executive Directors. It covers the entire recruitment process, from when to start and how to use a skills matrix, to where to recruit and how to craft recruitment letters. Participants will also learn how to set up effective orientation and onboarding programs for new members. The module emphasizes the importance of evaluating board members and processes to guide training and policy development.


This module is designed for Board Chairs, committee chairs and members, as well as all Board members seeking development and training. It is recommended to be taken in partnership with your Executive Director. The topics covered include how to chair a meeting, maintain discipline during meetings, and understand the appropriate times to make motions. Additionally, the module offers best practices for minute taking and agenda setting, distinguishing the roles of the Board versus the Executive Director. A significant focus is also placed on the terms of reference, functions, and roles of various committees.
